Sandra Vaz

Sandra Vaz obtained her Ph.D. from the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa (FMUL), studying GABA transporter modulation in astrocytes. She then held a postdoctoral position at iMM, focusing on astrocytes in synaptic plasticity. Now an Assistant Professor at FMUL and PI of the Neuron-Glia Dynamics Lab, her research centers on astrocytes’ role in the “tripartite synapse,” particularly in Absence Epilepsy and ALS. An expert in GABA transporters, BDNF/TrkB signaling, and adenosinergic modulation, she is skilled in Ca2+ signaling, patch-clamp, field, and EEG recordings.
