European Researchers’ Night in Malopolska 2025 at the Maj Institute of Pharmacology PAS
On 26th September 2025, the Maj Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences hosted the Researchers’ Night in Malopolska 2025. The event attracted a wide audience who had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of scientific work and explore modern research methods applied at the Institute.
During the workshops, the CEPHARES research infrastructure was presented by the member of the PANERIS project, allowing participants to experience various aspects of scientific discovery – from chemical synthesis and selected research challenges to advanced analytical techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Attendees also had the chance to explore microscopic imaging techniques and discover structures invisible to the naked eye.
The educational program included engaging lectures and workshops. The lecture “Do insects have a brain?” introduced participants to the fascinating world of bees and their unique “waggle dances,” a form of communication for which Karl von Frisch received the Nobel Prize in 1973. Another highlight was the workshop “Look inside the cell”, where participants observed neurons under the microscope and examined how different substances affect their condition. Using simple colorimetric methods, they were able to see differences between healthy and damaged cells – a principle applied in research on the action of new medicines.

Our appreciation also goes to the entire Institute team engaged in the preparation and organization of the event. The Researchers’ Night in Malopolska 2025 as a part of the European Researchers’ Night was a unique opportunity to engage with the younger generation and to demonstrate that scientific research can be both inspiring and fascinating.
