WINTER/SUMMER SCHOOL 22.04.2026

PANERIS Promotes European Research Infrastructures at the XLIII Winter School of the Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences

The PANERIS project continues to strengthen its international visibility and outreach through active participation in high-level scientific events across Europe. One important milestone in these activities was its contribution to the XLIII Winter School of the Maj Institute of Pharmacology PAS under the theme “Precision Medicine – from Drug Modelling to Clinical Practice” organized in Krakow, 23-25.02.2026.

The three-day event brought together researchers from diverse biomedical disciplines and provided an excellent platform to promote PANERIS objectives while strengthening links with European research infrastructures supporting translational neuroscience. The event gathered 234 participants representing 23 scientific institutions, including 25 speakers and over 180 ESRs.

A Scientific Programme Bridging Molecular Research and Clinical Innovation

The Winter School programme included six lecture sessions featuring 23 presentations covering recent advances in molecular biology, biochemistry, translational medicine, computational technologies, and data-driven biomedical research.

Key topics included:

  • structural foundations of drug discovery,
  • integration of omics datasets with clinical information,
  • applications of artificial intelligence and big data in diagnostics and therapy,
  • precision medicine approaches in psychiatry and neurology.

These themes closely align with PANERIS priorities in brain health, neuropharmacology, and interdisciplinary translational research, highlighting the strategic relevance of the event for the project community.

EATRIS Presentation Highlights Opportunities for Translational Neuroscience

A key element of the programme was the invited lecture delivered by Toni Andreu, Scientific Director of EATRIS.

His presentation introduced participants to the mission, structure, and opportunities offered by EATRIS as a pan-European research infrastructure supporting translational medicine. By connecting academic excellence with advanced technological platforms and specialised services across more than 175 institutions, EATRIS enables researchers to accelerate the development of innovative therapies, diagnostics, and biomedical solutions from discovery to early clinical validation.

Importantly, the lecture demonstrated the relevance of EATRIS services for scientists working in psychoneuropharmacology and related neuroscience domains. Participants gained insight into how access to distributed infrastructure, expertise in biomarker validation, imaging technologies, and early-phase translational support can strengthen the scientific impact and international competitiveness of their research projects. It was the next meeting with Toni (following the meeting in Wrocław last year), and the face-to-face discussions with scientists provided a valuable opportunity to present the core facilities of IP PAS and CEPHARES.

PANERIS Outreach, Infrastructure Promotion and Matchmaking Activities

The Winter School also provided an excellent opportunity to promote the objectives and achievements of PANERIS through a dedicated information stand presented during the conference.

Project representatives introduced:

  • activities supporting neuroscience capacity building in Widening countries,
  • opportunities for collaboration with European research infrastructures,
  • internationalisation pathways for researchers from Poland, Lithuania, Portugal, and Spain
  • potential of project partners core facilities

The PANERIS booth attracted strong interest from early-career researchers, infrastructure managers, and senior investigators. Informal discussions enabled exchange of experiences related to infrastructure access and opened new opportunities for collaboration within the European research infrastructure ecosystem.

These interactions significantly contributed to matchmaking activities by facilitating direct engagement with scientists interested in translational neuroscience and strengthening connections between national and international stakeholders. Such exchanges play an important role in reinforcing integration within the European Research Area.

Strengthening Collaboration Across the European Neuroscience Landscape

Overall, participation in the Winter School demonstrated how targeted outreach activities, expert infrastructure presentations, and networking opportunities effectively support the PANERIS mission of strengthening excellence, collaboration, and innovation in neuroscience research across Europe.

By facilitating dialogue between researchers and major European research infrastructures such as EATRIS, the event contributed directly to expanding collaboration pathways and increasing awareness of infrastructure access opportunities within the international neuroscience community.
